The Faculty consists of Departments of Tim Horton's, Finding A Comfortable Place and Living In University Studies. Students in the Faculty of Human and University Dynamics are governed by the regulations in this section of the Calendar as well as by general University Regulations. For the precise interpretation of any statement or regulation students should feel free to contact the Associate Dean (Student Affairs) or Human and University Dynamics.

Degrees Offered

The Faculty is currently still small and unable to offer any degrees, but minors are offered in all areas of study offered by this faculty.

Tim Horton's (TIMH)

Minor in Tim Horton's

Requirements for a minor in Tim Horton's are: TIMH 203, TIMH 205, TIMH 303 or TIMH 301, one other half course labelled Tim Horton's and numbered 300 and above, and one other half course labelled Tim Horton's and numbered 400 and above.

Courses Offered

TIMH 201 - Coffee Purchasing
This requires the undertaking of the purchase of at least one coffee from Tim Horton's each week.
Prerequisites: None

TIMH 203 - Understanding The Donut
The student will be required to understand and to comprehend the purchase of at least one donut per week.
Prerequisites: None

TIMH 205 - Lunch Comprehension
This entails making the purchase of either a soup or sandwich at least once a week from Tim Horton's. The student will be required to fully digest the course material.
Prerequisites: None

TIMH 301 - Lunch Combo Appreciation
The semester will be dedicated to studying and appreciating all the different lunch combos at Tim Horton's. Course material will require the purchase of at least two combos per week.
Prerequisites: TIMH201,TIMH203,TIMH205
NOTE: Not more than one of TIMH 301 and TIME 303 can be taken for credit.

TIMH 303 - Multi-Purchase Reasoning
This course will explore the reasons behind purchasing more than one kind of item at Tim Horton's, mainly to sastify lunch.
Prerequisites: TIMH203,TIMH205
NOTE: Not more than one of TIMH 301 and TIME 303 can be taken for credit.

TIMH 311 - Analyzing The TimBit
This course is conceptually more in depth than TIMH 203. Explored in detail are the reasons behind the purchase of six or more TimBits as a means to replace one donut. Discussions shall include the benefits of eating small jelly filled TimBits as opposed to the larger versions.
Prerequisites: TIMH203 or the consent of Tim Horton's

TIMH 401 - Theoretical Combos
The content of this course will be evaluating the merit behind different combos, especailly theoretical ones. One will explore the positive and negative reaons to combos and by the end of the course understand why certain combos are not offered.
Prerequisites: TIMH301 or TIMH303 or consent of the department

TIMH 403 - Distance and Tendency
Analysis of the forces at work pulling students from any point at campus to Tim Horton's in order to satisfy a craving for donuts.
Prerequisites: TIMH 203
Corequisites: PSYC 205

Find A Comfortable Place (FACP)

Minor in Finding A Comfortable Place

Requirements for a minor in Finding A Comfortable Place are: FACP 201, FACP 203 or FACP 205, FACP 207, FACP 209, plus one full-course equivalents labelled FACP and number 300 or above. FACP 205 is recommended or FACP 203.

Courses Offered

FACP 201 - Understand The Need
This course is generally taken during your first semester of your first year as a new student at the University of Calgary. After taking this course you will understand the need to find various kinds of places, depending on what you wish to do.
Prerequisites: None

FACP 203 - Finding The Smoke
This course will build the required skills to find an environment where one can smoke. It will cover the fundamentals of how not to freeze outside in the winter and where to smoke within buildings when studying is also required.
Prerequisites: None
NOTE: Due to health precautions this course will not be offered in the future.

FACP 205 - Avoiding The Smoke
This course will build the required skills to avoid environments with the stench, or presence, of smoke. It will also cover the skills necessary to avoid breathing in large volumes of smoke when walking out of a building.
Prerequisites: None
NOTE: Only one of FACP 203 and FACP 205 can be taken for credit.

FACP 207 - A Place To Work
Covered in this course are the skills required to find suitable working environments. This course will not cover the environments at different times.
Prerequisites: FACP 201

FACP 209 - A Place To Talk
Covered in this course are the skills required to find suitable talking environments.
Prerequisites: FACP 201

FACP 301 - A Place To Play
After reviewing the requirements to find places to talk this course details the differences between places to talk and places to play. After this course you will able to find the best environments to suit the size of the playing group.
Prerequisites: FACP 209
Corequisites: FACP 303

FACP 303 - Talk Area Ethics
This course will go into great detail discussing the ethics behind talk areas. It will cover the major differences between a noisy work area and a talk area. Also entailed is the ethics behind talking in a work area -- and when not to talk even though in a talk area.
Prerequisites: FACP 209, FACP 207

FACP 305 - Sleep Areas
This course is not offered at a Junior level because the department feels that during first year you don't have a large enough work load to merit using sleep areas. In this course will be covered are the aspects behind finding areas to sleep.
Prerequisites: None

FACP 307 - Creating a sleep environment
This course will discuss the requirements to create a sleep environment out of any other environment.
Prerequisites: FACP 305, FACP 207
NOTE: Only one of FACP 307 and LIUS 301 may be taken for credit.

Living In University Studies (LIUS)

Minor In Living In University Studies

Requirements for a minor in Livinig In University Studies are: LIUS 201, LIUS 203, LIUS 205, LIUS 301, LIUS 303, plus one half full-course equivalents labelled LIUS and numbered 400 or above.

Courses Offered

LIUS 201 - Basic Ethics
This course covers the basic ethics and morality that should be undertaken while on campus. It will cover basic respect that applies to all settings on campus.
Prerequisites: None

LIUS 203 - Building Ethics
This course concentrates on ethics that apply within all buildings, and a few variations from building to building.
Prerequisites: LIUS 201

LIUS 204 - Outside Ethics
This full year course will cover basic outside ethics and how they chance from season to season. Paying particular attention to changing weather patterns and how the influence basic ethics.
Prerequisites: LIUS 201

LIUS 205 - Leaving Class
Discussed in this course are the best ways to leave class without disturbing anyone.
Prerequisites: None
Corequsites: LIUS 203

LIUS 301 - Sleep Studies
This course covers the basic requirements to find time and places to sleep while attending University. It will entail the ethics of devices used to sleep and what is considered a sleep area.
Prerequisites: None, FACP 201 is recommended
NOTE: Note more than one of LIUS 301 and FACP 307 may be taken for credit.

LIUS 303 - Door Courtesy
This provides a very in depth look at door courtesises. Ranging from which doors to use during busy times and how much of an effort should be placed on trying to keep the door open for those following you. Briefly covered are aspects regarding talk areas that block doors.
Prerequisites: LIUS 203, LIUS 204 is recommended

LIUS 305 - Food Areas
This discusses the proper uses of food areas. Covered are the ethics behind cleaning up after onself and the conversion of food areas to work areas.
Prerequisites: LIUS 203
Corequisites: FACP 207

LIUS 401 - Hallway Dynamics
Human movements through hallways with emphasis on the theoretical and practical forces involved. Hall shuffling, running, and strifing shall be briefly covered.
Prerequisites: PHYS 205

LIUS 402 - Hallway Strategies
A substantial project under the guidance of a faculy member. A series of reports must be turned in detailing the discoveries of hallway strategies discovered and their merit.
Prerequisites: Consent of department head.
Corequisites: LIUS 401
