Deteriorate

The Senectuous Entrance

(c)(p)1996 Pulverizer Records

Review by Mark Rafferty

This is the debut release for Deteriorate on Pulverizor Records. "The Senectuous Entrance" is the result of 2 different recording sessions, tracks 1-5 recorded in August '95, and tracks 6-10 in August '94. The progression is very noticeable, from black/death to a much more black metal influenced sound on the more recent recordings. The older tracks are from their "Gather the Nebbish" demo and are more of a death metal style. I like the newer cuts much better, but the '94 recordings are some very good death metal songs, vocalist, Gannon, shows more versatility on these ones, higher screams to lower growls. Nothing terribly original anywhere on this disc but it is quite decent. As I mentioned the newer tracks I like somewhat more, their quite a bit like the European style of black metal, with some aggressive melodic riffing along with that 'all-out' type of black metal attack. This is a very good release displaying where Deteriorates sound is coming from and shows a lot of promise to where it will go, a CD very much worth checking out.
