You know you're dealing with true death metal when the album opens up with extreme brute force. Pounding in hard, bass that causes your spine to ripple, and some tuned down guitar riffs that keep the low end strong. Adramelech however is not death metal in it's rawest form, there is a certain melodic quality to the music here. Well, at least in parts. In "Psychostasia" they jump from the fast, almost grinding, segments into a slower melodic chunk that still manages to capture the essence of extreme metal; heavy and intense.
This work has managed to successfully combine all the instruments of death metal into one solid cacophony. A guitar that is at times almost indistinguishable form the bass, provides a rhythm allowing for a continuos heavy sound. An art lost sometimes amongst death metal bands is that to have the guitars combine with the drum beat, that is not the case here, they actually fit together and the timing is fairly decent. The other guitar often sits in the foreground and delivers original riffs, complex, yet blending in with the music in a manner you may not be expecting with death metal.
The growling vocals complete the arrangement that Adramelech has put together. Somewhat harmonized with the music they are delivered with aggression that doesn't quite match the music; possibly their volume may just be a little too low, but they don't sound as forceful as they probably should. Coming forth from the mouth of Jarkko are lyrics definitely not in the style of old school death. They speak of mythological, ancient, and other combinations of religious beliefs, normally referring to the rise of a warrior or some final judgement.
All around I'd say that Adramelech is a fairly impressive death metal band. However what tends to happen with bands with such a style is they are destined to become atmospheric and possibly enter the world of doomdeath. Nonetheless, "Psychostasia" stands out among the crowded genre, so go buy the album and make these guys some money so they don't have to keep borrowing equipment.*
