The latest twisted tale from King Diamond is called "The Graveyard" and it could be one of his best albums yet. It seemed to me that King was getting a bit stale with the last two mediocre releases; "The Eye" and "Spider's Lullaby". Although they were still fairly decent albums they weren't as good as the older material. "The Graveyard" is a typical King Diamond album ranging from the soft eary melodies to the more heavier shots of metal that all combine to create the mood for the story he is telling. Each King Diamond album is always quite a musical journey mostly because of the concept of each album taking the music all over and that is what is so appealing, it's the variety of sounds contained in each release. "The Graveyard" has all of that what you'd expect from the King and done so well, good production (cool raw guitar sound), great guitar work, and of course King Diamond's twisted vocals. One thing I like about this CD is it's heaviness, it seems Andy LaRocque has come up with some fairly heavy riffs, working with Death maybe helped inject some aggression into his music. Although I would have preferred more of these heavier cuts and less of the slow mood creating tracks. I think reviewing a King Diamond release is an easy task in that you either like his music or hate it. Fans of King are definitely going to be pleased with The Graveyard, and I'm sure if your not a fan I don't see any reason why The Graveyard would make you one, even though he seems to not sing in his patented high wail as much on this release (damn). The CD is just over 60 minutes long, a good length for King Diamond album since there is so much musical variety. Another very entertaining release from King Diamond.
