Killengod. Fairly evocative name, for a VERY evocative band. Hailing from Brisbane (yay), Australia, Killengod play a very groovy brand of pure DEATH METAL!. This disc has been out for about 6 months now, but it deserves a review, so here goes!
"Even Death Flow" starts the disc, and straight away, the band dive into their furious groove, hinting at influences like Death, Cannibal Corpse, Autopsy etc, and even local band Misery. This is one of those songs that you just have to programme over and over again. One might even say Carcass is an influence, although this is more from a vocal point of view, as Killengod do the "grunt/screech/grunt/screech" (AKA Walker/Steer) thing to great effect also.
"Funeral Fuck" and "Soul Mutilation carry on with the Deicide/CC/Sinister influences, but again with that killer groove, and a vocal attack that doesnt get muffled by mud like CC often does. "Experimental Evidence" is a bit different though, a track that (musically, not vocally) could've been lifter straight from Sepultura's "Arise" album with the same killer solos, and riffing.
A sensational debut, one which promises heavier things to come. Its always good to see new Aussie bands making their mark. If you feel you're up to it, go for it!
