I'd never heard of Mascot Music until I saw this compilation sitting in the music store. It has a nice diverse collection of extreme metal and is great to introduce you to many different bands.
B>Thong "Seeking". This sounds sort of like Pantera doing death metal, original and intense with a shouting style of vocals.
Product Of Society "This". A hard core style of metal, emphasizing the lyrics over the music. Sounds quite good, but I fear it could get quite boring after more than a couple songs.
Labertino "You're Dead". A lot of this song, having a distinctive vocal style, sounds very much like Beastie Boys. A very simple song with some simple lyrics, but it does have a variety of riffs, however there isn't much of a strong structure holding them together.
Sadus "Stronger Than Life". Fast death metal with not quite growling vocals.
Torque "Nothing". Very much like thrash, but a few elements of melody exist in there. Not too many riffs here. Too much of this and it would get boring, but it does add to the compilation.
Creepmine "Chiaroscuro". Driving low end with some pretty decent guitar riffs. Layered over with some soft, dark, spoken vocals. The faster parts are somewhat unoriginal, but Creepmine has a really good growler!
Ancient Rites "Garden Of Delights". Ancient Rites comes at you with their form of powerful death metal, combining a pounding low end and a subtle lead, topped off with some great growly vocals. Fast, intense, dark, and deep.
Deviser "Forbidden Knowledge". Harmonic death metal has always been quite intriging. Deviser then breaks into some fast parts with vocals, and I can't decide whether it's a poor attempt at black metal or death metal. The parts without vocals are great though.
Sear Bliss "Aeons of Desolation". From the first 30 seconds of this song I'm tempted to go buy their album. A subtle drum track, powerful low end, filled out with some keyboards Sear Bliss achieves a very dark atmopshere. Low, slow, black metal like vocals complete the set. A very nice 9 minute addition to the compilation.
Occult "Passive Relations". Power metal with a very interesting lead guitar. At least that is the case into it breaks into a hybrid of death and black metal. A combination that gives us high speed death riffing and a combination of shrieking and growling.
Slave One "Hybrid Strain". Movie quotes. Weird synth sound. Intense drumming. Echoing growls. Harmony and clean vocals. Unique.
Carbonized "Golden Rain". An attempt at some form of retro hard core. It sounds childish and not very good. This compilation didn't need this song.
Eleven Pictures "Anywhen". I'm not exactly sure how an acoustic pop rock song got onto this compilation. No wait, maybe it's alternative.
Transport League "Bolivian Dog". Power metal in the vein of Pantera. Unfortunately it's not that original sounding, and very repetitive.
Exises "S*P*Y". Decent metal that sounds very similar to Van Halen. Except they tried to mix in some Iron Maiden influences.
A very good compilation made excellent if you set your CD player to skip the last four tracks. Buying this CD saves you the trouble of making your own mix, and also introduces you to a lot of bands.
