K. Juno
Juno Vol. 1
Review by Neil St.Laurent
Thanks to Juno for the Cassette
Juno from the onset is definitely very light in the spectrum of
music. In Japan it is seen as heavier music, in the European market
it would likely just be seen as rock -- Juno would rather just call
her music rock-n-roll anyways. There are however enough
components to consider "Juno Vol. 1" as part of the hard music scene,
albeit not something that would appeal to metal fans.
Juno claims not to have been influenced by Japanese pop music, but it
seems that just being in that scene has greatly influenced the music.
The level of aggression is extremely low, to the point where the
music could be considered friendly. The music certainly brings back
memories of the 80's though; it holds strongly to a style similar to
that of the popular glam bands, the ones like Poison, Cinderalla, or
other love based glam music. A female vocalist definitely changes
the music however, since the higher pitch vocals are genuine and do
adequately blend with the music.
Certain songs have incredibly catchy riffs which make the music more
rock-n-roll oriented and even more radio friendly. The primary riff
on "Love Me" just seems too familiar though...
My opinion of glam type music isn't very high, but let's face it,
millions upon millions of people buy the stuff. So while K. Juno may
not appeal to our average reader, she certainly has a huge potential
market awaiting her.
