Review by Neil St.Laurent

Thanks to Myers Media for the CD

Pioneer Electronics enters the record label scene by signing their very first act, Full On The Mouth (FOTM), to their Pioneer Music Group. Previously known as Lost Tribe, FOTM has been around for over 8 years now and "Collide" is their debut album.

Likely to appeal to the alternative music listener the album opens with a strong techno beat. That complete electronic sound evolves into a heavier alternative style of music as the song progresses. While the music has some elements of a metal band, the true feel is that of alternative, whilst maintaining an electronic influence almost throughout.

Although not the central core of the music, the drum machine nonetheless is unfortunately aggravating as the programming is too invariant to offer any enjoyment from the beats. Yet the sound is not held together or driven by any other instrument; there is a variety of simple guitar riffs on top, but nothing to constitute a driving sound. This lack of driving sound is what gives Full On The Mouth their appeal as a somewhat different-from-the-norm sounding band.

Overall it should be described as experimental music more than anything. Certain elements of style and structure, or lack thereof in a positive sense, make "Collide" and interesting album. However, there is a lack of both emotional and technical aspects at times, which indicates a bad production on behalf of Blumpy and guitarist Mohrman; there wasn't clear direction as to what the album was intended to sound like. Aside from the production issues "Collide" should have no problem appeasing the alternative music market.
