Bongzilla

Methods For Attaining Extreme Altitudes

(c)(p)1998 Relapse Records

Review by Vladimir Levin

Thanks to Relapse for the CD

So what to expect of an album by a band called Bongzilla with a photo of the band puffin' away on huge bongs on the inside of the back cover and a picture of a joint filled ash-tray on the CD itself?

Bongzilla does have an interesting sound: Bouncy, pounding, groove-oriented music... Almost Something out a 70's movie ... or something - think White Zombie with an aftertaste of Corrosion of Conformity, or maybe don't think at all... This music really does make you want to just chill out and have a nice big doobie. The really strange thing is the vocal style, which is a raspy black-metal screech. This definitely alters the musical equation somewhat. Whether it improves the music or not is probably a matter of personal taste.

Overall I give this this 30-or-so minute rumblin', poundin', groovin' CD a qualified thumbs up. I suppose you will find out for yourself whether it really helps to attain extreme altitudes!
