Review by Neil StLaurent

Thanks to Gory Blister for the Cassette

After going through rather turbulent times, the core of the band Gory Blister have managed to pull through and get a record deal with Nosferatu Rec. and put out some new material, including the "Cognitive Surgery" and "The Voyage Out" on this tape.

Trying not to be just another death metal band, Gory Blister try to achieve some melody in their music. However it often just comes out as intense and extreme and often grinding. There is no continuous barrage of aural attacks; the music style is loose enough to provide breaks and interruptions allowing for a few experiments with the sound, mainly dealing with the guitars. At times, certain atmospheric mini-interludes appear; at other times classic metal riffs and solos rise to the surface, all with a certain twist that makes them somewhat original.

Unfortunately the band isn't quite skilled enough at the technical aspects and the music is a little weak. "Art Bleeds" from new promo tracks shows a continued direction to the technical side. It is much cleaner and the members seem to be getting the hang of it, they just appear to need better production.

Definitely a weird breed of technical death metal. Unforunately these tracks come across as sounding somewhat non-serious. As mentioned earlier though, with a good producer and better than demo quality recording they should be able to put out an unique album.
