DISK 1
------
Vital Remains - 'Farewell To The Messiah' and 'I Am God'
(taken from the album 'Forever Underground')
The first of these tracks is an instrumental intro of a sort of medieval nature. 'I Am God' is a controlled, reasonably brutal Death Metal piece with some (unnecessary and unfitting) synth. Actually rather good, but way, far too long at 9 and a half minutes!
Marduk - 'Darkness It Shall Be'
(taken from the album 'Heaven Shall Burn...')
Rapid Black Metal, at a constant high speed. I was already familiar with this song since I own the album it's from. Quite good, but I prefer the 'Opus Nocturne' material.
Driller Killer - 'Time Up'
(taken from the album 'Fuck The World')
Punkish Death Metal. Too many "fuck fuck fuckadees," but I suppose it's listenable. Not exactly sophisticated or demanding music, that's for sure...
Necromantia - 'Spiritforms Of The Psychomancer'
(taken from 'Ancient Pride' vinyl version)
Not bad Black Metal, but definitly nothing special. Some good synth, but I think this band is somewhat overrated.
Angel Corpse - 'Perversion Enthroned'
(taken from 'Hammer Of Gods')
Death Metal reminiscent of mid-era Morbid Angel.
Immortal - 'Nebular Ravens Winter'
(taken from 'Blizzard Beasts)
A very typical song title for Immortal, and the music is also full of their trademarks. The riff sounds a lot like Morbid Angel though.
Dark Tranquillity - 'Tongues'
(taken from 'The Mind's I')
Not one of the best from the album, but still very good melodic Death Metal. Definitly one of the best bands within this style.
Gehennah - 'Rock 'N' Roll Patrol'
(taken from 'Kings Of The Sidewalk'
Imagine a cross between Venom and Motorhead. Great! Quite amusing lyrics, too (the lyrics to these tracks aren't included in the booklet, BTW).
Enslaved - 'Forgotten'
(from 'Eld')
What can I say - great song from a great album.
Swordmaster - 'Metallic Devastation'
(from 'Postmortem Tales')
Well played, rough yet melodic, and not much different from the material on their 'Wraths Of Time' MCD.
Inferno - 'Satanic Overkill'
(taken from 'Utter Hell')
Retro-metal, but I prefer Gehennah.
Demoniac - 'Burn The Witch'
(taken from 'Stormblade')
This is Heavy Metal with Black Metallish vocals. Not my favourite song from their album, but not bad. Very early Iron Maiden sounding.
Absu - 'Of Celtic Fire, We Are Born' 'Terminus'
(taken from 'The Third Storm Of Cythraul')
A bit of a regression after the material on 'The Sun Of Tiphareth.' Overlong at around 8 minutes, and a little boring in places to be honest. Some nice epic-Bathory style melodic chanting though.

Impaled Nazarene - 'I Am The Killer Of Trolls'
(previously unreleased track)
Well, it's Impaled Nazarene, isn't it. You know what to expect.
Bewitched - 'Blood On The Altar'
(previously unreleased track)
Retro-metal, but with more typical Black Metal vocals. As you probably know, this is one of Blackheim's bands. Quite good, although the Satanic version of the lord's prayer halfway through is a bit naff.
Disfear - 'Anthem Of Agony'
(previously unreleased track)
Well, it's Impaled Nazarene, isn't it. You know what to expect. No, they're not the same band really, but they might as well be.
Raism - 'Aesthetic Terrorism'
(album track)
All was going fine until the horrible techno/industrial/whatever it is bit came in.
Swordmaster - 'Clans Of Death'
(demo version)
A demo track, but I actually prefer this to 'Metallic Devastation.' This song makes good use of the rapid vocal delivery, like on the first track of 'Wraths Of Time.'
Tsatthoggua - 'Status Sturmer'
(previously unreleased track)
Uneventful Black Metal. Not brilliantly executed, either.
Mystifier - 'Leather And Metal'
(previously unreleased track)
The only Mystifier album I own is 'Goetia.' This is quite different. Catchy chorus (although with silly lyrics), but it sounds very mechanical - not industrial, just not 'natural' sounding, a bit empty.
Loud Pipes - 'Stressed To Death'
(previously unreleased track)
Fast 'punk' stuff.
The Rocking Dildos - 'Waterheads'
(previously unreleased track)
Same as Loud Pipes, same as Disfear.
Sadistik Exekution - 'Dejeka Infinitus'
(previously unreleased track)
Yes, well! I can see the appeal as a one-off novelty, but if all their stuff's like this, then that's worrying. Incredibly fast, "fuckfuckfuck" bleeurgh. Some of their interviews are funny though.
Gardenian - 'The Downfall'
(album track)
Not bad melodic Death Metal. Sounds refreshing after the previous 3 tracks, but they'll need a bit of work to reach the standard of In Flames, Dissection etc.
Devilyn - 'Decline Of Worlds'
(album track)
Very Morbid Angel-like Death Metal, but without any memorable moments. Well played, but what does this band offer the listener?
Conqueror - 'Hammer Of Supremacy'
(previously unreleased track)
Black Metal with no highlights - just constantly fast. A good grim sound, but not much else going for it.
Majestic Midnight - 'When Light Goes Down'
(previously unreleased track)
A half-hearted attempt at an atmospheric Black Metal song.
G... /O... -I. -A. -L... -C...
(previously unreleased track)
That's how it's written, honestly! This 'song' is on the same track as the Majestic Midnight song - you need to fast forward after the song ends to get to it. I haven't got a clue what this band is (although presumably O.I.A.L.C. stands for Once In A Lifetime Chance), but... I definitly wasn't expecting this! It's a jokey swing number, with deliberatley poor instrumentation - drunk, stoned, who knows, but it's damn funny. #REVIEW>
