I don't know why this Polish band bothered releasing a MCD which only has 2 tracks, and only lasts for about 11 and a half minutes! Even if this was the best music ever, I'd expect a bit more for my money. Anyway, it's on Wounded Love Records, and I suppose 'black/viking/pagan metal' would be the best way to describe it. I'm not too fond of the packaging, because the lettering on the digipack is in a typically annoying Ulver-ish font (very difficult to read), the band photo is too small, and there's no thanks list, 'who plays what,' lyrics or anything else.
Musically, it's pretty melodic, midtempo, and not very extreme. Comparisons to Dismal Euphony can be made in terms of the overall sound and feeling. The guitars usually seem to play second fiddle to the synth, which is quite high in the mix - the string sound is a bit unrealistic and naff, but the melodies are generally quite good. A few different vocal styles are used - the main one reminds me in a way of Varg Vikernes' anguished gasped wailing, but without the harsh throatiness, and nowhere near as much intensity. There's also some good theatrical deep speaking, and some mediocre female vocals at times. Annoyingly, there's a short bit of crap deep "Viking Frog"-style singing towards the end of the second track, which soooo many bands insist on doing these days. The first track also fucks up towards the end - everything's going fine, until suddenly the drumming goes totally arse over head. Such struggling makes me think that this MCD was perhaps a bit rushed.
They clearly have a vision of what they want to achieve, and if you can ignore the negative points I've outlined, this can be a fairly rewarding listen. The band are good at creating then building an atmosphere, and there's definite potential hinted at in these non-threatening yet quite evocative ditties.
