Face

S/T

(c)(p)1997

Review by Neil St.Laurent

Thanks to Face for the tape

Dabbling in a variety of styles (self assessed as metal, hardcore, industrial, and speed) Face is attempting to create a unique heavy sound. It is undeniably that they succeed in this request. Well it's not entirely all unique, for the moment you actually mix styles you are not being truly unique -- but that technical point aside Face does deliver some very different sounds.

The sound is heavy and has no particular driving instrument; everything sort of blends together as though their presence was accounted for ahead of time rather than just thrown in as background sound. It runs from cold hard aggression to relaxed sombre melodies. An interchange of driving rhythms to flowing leads brings real emotion to the music -- on the musical side it's quite simple and unintentionally technical at times (or so it seems). The speed of delivery ranges from fairly slow to fairly fast, all well within the domain of standard metal.
