The Blood Is On Your Hands

1997

Review by Neil St.Laurent

Thanks to Exceed for the tape

Claiming to cover all forms of music this tape (advance of an upcoming release) starts out with some closing in on insanity speed deathish music. This opening song "Put To Death" continues with it's intense raw sound -- at times with very little coherence, but generally only with the vocals. With the exception of the failed shriek-like segment the voice of Carter is a low harsh growl.

The opening to "Slim N' None" is an excellent drum attack that takes the foreground for quite a while. Actually drummer Tom Burk pulls off a great drum track throughout. This is where they branch out their musical style from the old school death in the first two songs. I suppose this song is a somewhat successful cross of hardcore and death, it's too bad there are mixing problems with the vocals. Somewhere in the middle is a trance creating interlude that combined with everything else they do makes Exceed quite a unique sounding band.

Wishing to show even more diversity the band has kindly included a cover of "I Turned Into a Martian" from the Misfits. Although their ending dwindles away with a junky wimper the song is quite well done.

To finish off the tape is "Systematic Elimination". This has both a melodic and atmospheric feel at times, and tones down on the speed a little. There is of course the exception to the in your face short blasting riffs segments -- likely to cause great joy for the mosh pit masses.

Exceed is a refreshing take of old school death in general. Strong, aggressive, and intensive they deliver a high quality recording and likely an incredible high adrenaline live show.
