Vader have come a long way since their beginnings in 1986, a time when many people didn't know about death metal, let alone it coming from Poland. "De Profundis" was recorded for Croon Records, a small Polish label. Eventually Conquest got a hold of a license from Impact Records, who should also be releasing more stuff from Vader, and made this CD available in North America. A few issues back was a review of "Sothis", Vader's previous mcd, which now in retrospect pales in comparison with "De Profundis".
Not wasting any time at all Vader breaks out with intense speed and emotion on the very first song "Silent Empire". From that point on it just doesn't stop. The drumming ranges from fast to insanity and is everpresent on the album. Extremely varied, and numerous offerings of blast beats and fills add that extra degree of intensity that make the album extreme. The guitar riffs are also powerful and very much death metal in nature. "Incarnation" proves that even death metal has a place for the the guitar solo. On top of the solid rhythm comes solos that fit in perfectly. It's a wonder that through the assault you can still make out the bass track, although at times it make its presence very well known.
A bonus song on the US version "I Feel You" stands out from the rest of the album. This one is excluded from that unrelenting assault clause for the rest of the album. It's kind of slow and somewhat atmospheric.
"De Profundis" is aggressive from beginning to end. No mellowing out to be found (again with exception to "I Feel You") within the brutal mainly old school death arrangement. It's an album that would probably scare away new listeners to the genre; It's an album that fans of the genre will definitely want in their collection.
