Oklahoma Bomb Squad

Just Watch Me...

1996

Review by Neil St.Laurent

Thanks to CrimeWave Records for the Cassette/CD

This short demo tape comes to us from a band called "Oklahoma Bomb Squad" on the relatively new small label "Crime Wave Records". The demo start outs with a "classic"? OBS's version of "One Of Us" is quite interesting and quite a bit more listenable than the original song.

"Lasting Impression", the second song, is fairly standard metal fare. While the technical merits are somewhat impressive, the structure of the song and the riffs used are quite generic. The end of the song lends itself perfectly to audience participation though: a pattern of single line lead vocals with the trailing "Still you're there".

The third song is "Fear (Of Being Alone)". It offers a simple hard rythm with some soft spoken male vocals. The song picks somewhat and the vocals alter to the angst driven shouting that is common in a lot of new metal. With the exception of repeating the last segments of the song too often, this is a solid metal song that really shows that OBS is a good band.
