Ablaze My Sorrow are melodic deathmetal from Sweden. That should give some idea of how this band sounds, plenty of them fast picked melodic riffs along with the other elements that make up their sound. They somewhat remind me of earlier At The Gates in that sense. This is the bands debut and it is quite good at that for this young group. The main problem with this release is that it does seem to lack something, maybe it's in the arrangements, the music flows pretty well but their are times when it seems to just lack something causing a bit of the intensity to lag. Either that or it's the odd week riff thrown in here and there. The other thing that may or may not be a downside to "If Emotions Still Burn" is it's rather 'up-beat' sound, it seems to lack that aggression and dark feel that we usually go for, but on the other hand this feel that they create is what is unique to this band and helps give them their identity. "If Emotions Still Burn" is a great release, given the opportunity for this band to further develop their sound, it will be interesting to hear what they come up with next because this release seems to indicate that they have the ability to create some very interesting and original music. Overall I would say that I like this album, I recommend you check out Ablaze My Sorrow if your a fan of this style of melodic deathmetal. Not quite as technically proficient as say In Flames or Dark Tranquillity but quite decent.
